GELPS – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
GELPS (Pty) Ltd is a specialist provider of engineered lightning protection and earthing systems. We design, install, test, and certify systems for facilities where failure is not an option.
Our experience includes high-risk and explosive environments such as fuel depots, industrial plants, and remote facilities.
We do not install generic systems — every solution is engineered based on site conditions, soil resistivity, and risk profile.
A Lightning Risk Assessment identifies potential lightning hazards and compliance gaps in your facility. It ensures your systems meet SANS 10313 and IEC standards, protects personnel and assets, and supports insurance and regulatory requirements.
A SANS 10313 system is a fully engineered lightning protection network. It includes air terminals, conductors, bonding, earthing systems, and surge protection devices (SPDs), designed for compliance, safety, and insurance approval.
Yes. Thatch roofs are highly flammable and vulnerable to lightning strikes. A free-standing lightning pole mast provides a safe interception point, preventing the lightning from striking the roof directly.
GELPS recommends periodic inspections and maintenance every 12 months, or after major structural changes, storms, or system upgrades, to ensure compliance, performance, and safety.
We perform earth resistance, continuity, and system integrity tests, verifying compliance with SANS 10313 & IEC standards. A detailed certification report is provided, which is insurance-ready and regulator-compliant.
We recommend a professional inspection every few years. GELPS offers testing and maintenance services to assess system performance, detect faults, and recommend necessary upgrades.
Without engineered protection, your facility faces fire, structural damage, equipment failure, downtime, and insurance claim rejection. High-risk sites like industrial plants, fuel depots, and chemical facilities are particularly vulnerable.
Soil resistivity affects the performance of earthing systems. Testing allows us to design optimal grounding solutions that dissipate lightning energy safely and maintain system compliance.
Yes. Our systems are custom-designed for industrial plants, warehouses, commercial buildings, and remote lodges or game reserves, addressing each site’s specific risk, location, and compliance needs.
Absolutely. We have extensive experience in fuel depots, chemical plants, and explosive-risk facilities, ensuring systems are engineered, tested, and certified to protect both people and assets.
Yes. All our systems include full testing reports, compliance certificates, and engineering documentation, making them ready for insurance submission and regulator approval.
Our engineers perform a site inspection and lightning risk assessment, reviewing existing systems, soil conditions, and structural vulnerabilities. Based on this, we recommend tailored lightning protection and earthing systems that meet compliance standards.
Yes. GELPS provides scheduled maintenance and periodic compliance services, ensuring your systems remain fully operational, safe, and compliant year-round.
All GELPS systems are SANS 10313 and IEC compliant, fully tested, and come with certification reports that are recognized by industry regulators and insurers
